Robert Lewis Baker, 81, of Williamstown, West Virginia, passed away peacefully this past Wednesday, the 19th day of December, 2012 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania amongst members of his beloved family. Robert was born on the 21st day of February, 1931 to Lewis and Ruth Baker in Marietta, Ohio, the oldest of four children. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1949 and continued his education in engineering at the Allied Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois.
Robert served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. During which, he met his beautiful and beloved wife, Pauline Margaret-Lillian Baker while based in Oxford, England. They married on the 5th day of April, 1952 and fulfilled their duties to love one another accordingly for the following 60 years.
After the war, Robert continued to serve in the Air National Guard and achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. In addition to his service, Robert began a long and fulfilling career as an engineer. Robert retired in 1991 as the Supervisor of Engineering at Kardex Systems, Inc., of which he had been gainfully employed for more than 30 years. Robert’s pastime was spent on his true passion, his family. He was a noble man with high moral fortitude who spoke primarily of God, country and family.
Robert is survived by his wife, Pauline Baker of Williamstown, West Virginia; daughter, Debra Hinton of Parkersburg, West Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Dale Dominick of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and John Lazer of Devola, Ohio; and grandchildren Matthew DeGruyter of Laguna Niguel, California; David DeGruyter of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Michael Hinton of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; David Hinton of Elmira, New York; Alexandra Hinton of Parkersburg, West Virginia; Stephen Baker of Marietta, Ohio; Staci Baker of Indianapolis, Indiana; Erin Baker of Stockport, Ohio; and Sydney Dominick, Gabriel Dominick and Abigail Dominick of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Robert is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ruth McCarthy-Fitch Baker; beloved father, Lewis Edward Baker; beloved sister, Patricia Ruth Baker-Klintworth; beloved sister, Sarah Baker Brannon; beloved daughter, Jacqueline Ruth Patricia Baker; and beloved son, Stephen Robert Lewis Graham Baker.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock pm with the burial to follow on the 22nd day of December, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Minister Everett Snyder officiating.
