Richard Lynn Looney, 71, of Parkersburg, WV passed away on May 12, 2024, under the care of the Parkersburg Care Center, VA Home Based Primary Care, and Hospice House Calls with his children at his bedside.
Rick was born in Parkersburg, WV on Dec. 3, 1952, the son of the late Ralph and Luelva Looney. Rick was a graduate of PHS in 1970.
Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Luelva Looney and his father and step-mother, Ralph and Janet Looney.
He is survived by his devoted companion, Tracey Wilhelm, his children Robin (Richard) Barbour II of Jacksonville, Fl and Jeffrey (Francie) Looney of Washington, WV, his grandchildren, Wyatt and Blake Barbour, Brandt and Brynn Looney, two half sisters Connie (John) Hickman and Michele (Jeff) Elder. Rick was blessed to have numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rick has always been passionately involved in his community. He served in the US Army as an O5 Charlie in telecommunications in Frankfurt, Germany for 2 years. He spent his early adolescent years always knowing Ralph’s Supermarket as a second home. In his early 20’s he became Vice President of the Looney Corporation and took pride in his work ethic at Ralph’s Supermarket. In 1993, he spent the next chapter of his career as a carpet salesman at Family Carpet for 20 years. After retirement he found joy in visiting the carpet store staff and hanging out at the 339 auto sales.
Rick was a 32nd degree Mason and a Nemesis Shriner. Within the Shrine, he was actively involved with the Motorized Unit, Mid-Ohio Valley Shrine Club, and Nemesis Roadrunners. He participated in countless parades and assisted with transporting many children to Shriner hospitals in Lexington, KY and Cincinnati, OH. He took great pride in helping these children in need. He was also an active member of the Parkersburg Moose Lodge 1118, past director of ROJ Court 156, a member of Ben Bey Grotto and the American Legion Post 15.
To all of the family and friends that helped give our dad’s life meaning, we thank you for the joys and support you provided our dad over the years. His favorite memory was not one but all the years of laughter, fellowship, and celebrating life.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Nemesis Shrine could be made in his name.
Celebration of Life will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May14, 2024 at the Parkersburg Moose Lodge.
