Nancy Lee Thompson, 81, of Vienna, WV, died August 17, 2023 at Camden Clark Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born August 31, 1941 in Zanesville, OH, the daughter of the late John B. and Gertrude Reed Runkle. Nancy was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was put on this earth to care for others and she wasn’t happy unless she was doing just that. She always put other people’s needs before her own needs no matter the situation. Anyone that she ever made contact with, even for a short period of time, would tell you that she was sweet, compassionate, caring and nurturing. She greatly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a very strong relationship with the lord and was a member of The One Church in Parkersburg. Left to cherish her memory is the love of her life, her husband, Fred Thompson, of 63 years; daughters; Tina (Larry) Ellison of Parkersburg, Sheri (Jeff) Leisure of Mechanicsville, VA., Mary Thompson of Vienna; grandchildren Sabrena (Eddie) McKinney, Stacy (Steven) Tichy, Daphne (Jansen) Jeffrey, Gordon (Elizabeth) Ellison, Samantha (Scottie) Godsey; great-grandchildren; Sadie, Ellie, Gracie, Payson, Lucas, Maddie, Adlee, Jameson “JJ”, Kenneth “Kent”; sister; Bertha “Pinky” Powell of Otway, OH. In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her brothers; Walter Runkle, Thomas Runkle, John Runkle; sisters; Sally DeVoll, Gertrude “Trudy” Jewett, Mary Lou Ross, Joann Joseph, Beverly DeVoll.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. officiated by Jeff Edman and JT Douglas.
