Michael was born on September 1, 1941. He was married to the love of his life, Sandy Smedley, for 59 years. He was a 1960 graduate of Parkersburg High School where he was apart of the 1958 State Football Championship team and set records in Track and Field. He was the President of the Parkersburg South Wrestling Boosters for many years and the founder of the "Rat Pack." He loved watching and supporting athletics. He was a proud member of the Marine Reserves. He was a long-time employee of General Electric before retiring in 1999. He loved gardening and front-porch-sitting but not as much as he loved his grandchildren. They were "Pappy's babies."
Michael was held in the arms of his son, Brian Smedley as he entered heaven's gates. Michael was also proceeded in death by Lovell Smedley (father), Belle Smedley (mother), Claude Beach (father-in-law), Orpha Beach (mother-in-law) Elisha Farley (grandfather) Leona Farley (grandmother), Clayton Lott (uncle), Donnie Lott (aunt), and Precious (his beloved fury companion).
Michael was survived by his wife, Sandy. Daughter, Tammy (John). Grandchildren Jessica (Justin), Toria, Olivia and Bryce. Sister, Rhena. Daughter-in-law, Michele. Michael was also survived by several nieces, nephews, family and friends whom he loved very much.
The family would like to personally thank Dr. Mahyar Tahbaz for being his physician throughout the years and especially in his last days. A private graveside service will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Sunday (11/29) where he will be laid to rest.
