He was born on July 13, 1948, in Parkersburg, WV, to the late Alma Leta Buchanan and Lawrence Robert Buchanan. HE was a 1967 graduate of Parkersburg High School. After graduating Jim served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received the Purple Heart Award and was very proud of his service to his country.
Jim enjoyed women, NASCAR, The Big Bang Theory, cooking and spending time with his family.
He was most proud of serving his country and great grandbaby Blaiklynn.
Jim is survived by his companion, Belinda Baker; five daughters, Dacy (Erik) Penik of Denver, CO, Michelle (Jeff) Cordes of Florence, AZ, Jamie Gibbs (Frank) of Parkersburg, WV, Tonya (Tony) Presley of Charleston, WV, and Crystal Buchanan (Matt) of Parkersburg, WV; 15 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He had many other daughters who called him Dad because he was a father to so many.
Jim will be remembered as being a hero, a loving father, grandfather, uncle and brother to so many. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his skills in the kitchen, his desire to always win an argument and the love he had for his family.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two grandsons and one brother.
The family of Jim would like to thank the caring staff at both Camden Clark Medical Center and the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. The staff at the VA Medical Center went above and beyond to take care of our father and we can not thank them enough for all they have done.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with services at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service.
