He was born on April 18th, 1923 in Clarksburg, WV, to the late Ross and Alta F. Leaman.
Dick graduated from Cairo High School in 1942 in 1942. Following graduation he entered the United States Army, serving in the European Theatre in WWII. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and two Oak Leaf Clusters.
Dick was married to his wife Eleanor for 68 years. He was employed by Grumman Aircraft Corporation (GAC) for 25 years where he participated in many projects including the assembly of the first lunar excursion module which landed on the moon. He was also very proud to have participated in the project which constructed the F-14 fighter jet for the US Navy.
After retirement from GAC, he entered the ministry and was ordained Deacon by the WV United Methodist conference. He retired in 1989 after serving the Palestine, Gassaway and Ansted-Victor Charges.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; three sons, David, Franklin & Joseph; two daughters, Ellen and Nancy; grandchildren Christopher Butler, Justin Butler, Lorien Fay Leaman, Heidi Leaman, Hannah Leaman, Lauren Leaman, Jacqualin Leaman, Rebecca Leaman Cornell, John Charlton, Catherine Charlton, and Caryn Charlton Woofter. Jacob also leaves behind ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters; Edna French, Julia Ann Nason and Edith Kerns.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Franklin Leaman and Forrest Leaman, as well as one sister Electa Leaman Hill.
Services will be held on Sunday, August 17th at 2:00 PM, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, in Parkersburg, WV, with Reverend Paul Russell officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Saturday, August 16th at the funeral home.
