Don was born on January 14, 1934, to Lawrence and Lona (Smith) Hopkins, Vienna, WV. He attended Parkersburg High School, and was an Army veteran serving from 1956-1958, Ft. Hood, Texas. His hobbies included stock car racing, Harleys, trucks, and attending rallys in Daytona and Sturgis. He worked at Chittum Buick, and Johns-Manville, before pursuing a career in over the road trucking, retiring in 2015 from Marietta Transfer Services.
Don was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church of Parkersburg, WV.
He is survived by his daughters: Gayle Hoschar, her children: Brittany Shutts, Cami (Devin) Franz, Lucas, Brooklyn, Mollie and Logan Hoschar. Julie Lynn Jones, her children: MSgt. Nathan L Jones, USMC, D. J. Jones, and Joseph Jones. Great grandchildren: Gracelyn Shutts, Jonah Shutts and baby girl Franz to be born in April. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and the mother of his daughters, Barbara Johnson Hopkins.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lona Hopkins, his sister, Lillian Hopkins Whited, her husband, Howard Whited and one nephew, Lawrence Wellington Whited.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., Hamden Nursing Home, 38500 OH-160, Hamden, OH 45634, or Motorcycle Toys for Tots Run. Don was a proud Life member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Harleys Owners Group.
Arrangements handled by Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family plans a Memorial Service at a later date.
