Darrell was born in Sherman, WV to William Marion and Margaret Milhoan Smith, on a farm that he cherished which continued to be a big part of his life. He was proceeded in death by his parents and two sisters, Rozelle Delong and Maxine Smith.
He proudly served in the US Air Force, stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Following discharge, he worked at EI Dupont for 36 years in Nylon Filaments Dept.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife and lifelong partner of 71 years Geraldine (“Beanie”) Sallie Smith and their five children Cheryl (Dallas) Wingrove, Beverly (Chuck) Morgan, Denise (Chester) Hoover, David/Bubba (Teresa) Smith and Brent (Kacey) Smith. Grandchildren, Jeremy, Wesley, Ryan, Noah, Maggie and Wyatt. Great grandchildren Jacob, Hannah, Cayden, Jackson, Tyler, Olivia, Jack and Parker.
He loved Family and supported them faithfully in all their endeavors.
His Grandson gave this loving tribute: One of the greatest men to walk the earth went to Heaven this morning. What a legacy this man left behind. 71 years of a loving marriage. A Godly man who led his Family and showed them how to love and respect the Lord. We could not have asked for a better patriarch/role model to lead our family. His Family legacy allows you to look into the heart of this man. We miss you already.
Visitation will be Wednesday May 10th from 4-8pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Service will be on Thursday May 11th, at 11am at Bethel Baptist Church, 15 Bethel Road Parkersburg, WV with visitation starting 1 hour prior to services with Pastor Aaron Marvel and Jim Sallie officiating.
