Lyle was born November 24, 1929, in Parkersburg, WV, to Carl and Lena (Brethauer) Affolter.
He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from Marshall University in 1956 and served in the United States Air Force.
He married Nina Bever on November 27, 1958.
He owned and operated Affolter Realty with Nina in the seventies and continued selling real estate until he retired in 2008.
Lyle was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church on 19th Street. He was also a member of the Nemesis Motor Corps, a Shriner, and a 32nd Degree Mason.
He had many interests, one of which included rock collecting. Wherever he went, you can be sure he had rocks in his pockets. He was the family’s official pancake connoisseur, with pancakes made in any shape desired. He loved animals, especially horses. He was a private pilot and was never happier than when he was up in the air.
Lyle will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Janet McIntire (Kolin) of Oak Harbor, WA, and Amy Reed (Jason) of Vienna; five grandsons, Jason Affolter of Lawrenceville, GA, Jon Affolter, Jr. (Camilla) of Ft. Benning, GA, Kyle Wince (Devan) of Parkersburg, Kaylon Patrick McIntire of Cheney, WA, and Steven Wince of Vienna; sister, Leah Stanley (Chuck) of Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lena Affolter; wife, Nina; son, Jon “Henry” Affolter; brothers, Robert Lee Affolter and Ira Lynn Affolter.
Services will be held at First Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, with Pastor Ian Reid officiating. Visitation is from 4-6 pm with the service to start immediately thereafter.
