Walter E. Shontz, 80, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024 at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Wickenburg, AZ to the late Charles Shontz and Laura Guyse. Walter graduated from Parker High School in 1963. He began his 35 year career at Metropolitan Water District as a Master Welder. Walter enjoyed and knew the importance of serving the Parker community. He was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America, involved with the Junior Golf Program, helped the Parker High School football program with running the chains at most home games and devoted himself with helping, organizing and running the Take a Kid Fishing program for over 40 years. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church (First Baptist Church). He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and watching the University of Alabama football games. Roll Tide!
Walter is the beloved husband of Elizabeth Shontz, beloved father to Jana White and Walt (Gina) Shontz. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Marion Shontz, sister-in-law Nattareeya Shontz, seven grandchildren Heather (Sam), Thomas (Jillian), Bryant (Jessica), Garrett (MacKenzie), Amanda, Sarah Marie and Walter, seven great grandchildren Cooper, Matthew, Abigail, Corbin, Olivia, Cutter, Taylor and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. LeRoy Shontz, brothers, Robert and Harold LeRoy and sister, Charlene Weis.
Services will be held at 10am on August 31, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church 1312 16th St., Parker, AZ. Immediately following will be a luncheon at the Parker Senior Center 1115 W. 12th St., Parker, AZ.
