Lola Violet Allen, 104, of Blossom, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Heritage House of Paris. Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Knights of Honor Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Allen was born January 22, 1913 to Clarence and Lillian Hicks Gallagher. She lived in North Dakota until she was six years old, at which time her family moved to Mason City, Iowa. She attended various schools during her younger years and on July 10, 1946, she married Donald H. Allen, and they made their home in Colleyville, Texas. Sometime later she and Donald moved to Jennings, in Lamar County, where they operated a dairy farm until 1970, and then moved to Blossom in 1975. Mrs. Allen was active in the Shady Grove Methodist Church where she taught several Sunday School classes. Later she became a member of the Blossom United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Jennings W.H.D. Club for many years and took part in many community activities as well as serving as the Chaplain for the Disabled Veterans group in Lamar County. Also, during this time she enjoyed taking classes at Paris Junior College. She was preceded in death by her by her husband on June 28, 1999. Following her husband’s death she moved to Colonel Lodge Retirement Center. She was loved by many and she loved them all. She was also preceded in death by two sons; Rex Allen and his wife, Barbara and David Allen. Survivors include a son, Robert W. “Bill” Allen & wife Kay of Blossom, grandchildren; Peggy Hulvey, Brad Allen & wife Cindy, Toni Davis, Brenda Holski & husband John and Billy Mac Steed & wife Kim, great grandchildren; Brandi O’Donnell, Rex Alan Johnson, Katelyn Hulvey, Robert Allen, Jonathan Allen, Emily Neve & husband Joel, Bric Steed & wife Ashley and Brittany Steed, great great grandchildren; Lila O’Donnell, Morgan Ezell, Clayton Johnson, Thomas Neve, Mary Olive Neve, Brooklyn and Capri Steed, a sister, June Pope & husband Wayne of Mason City, Iowa along with many nieces & nephews and a host of friends. Casket bearers will be Jonathan Allen, Robert Allen, Bobby Pomroy, Mike Hulvey, Shane Boatright and Bobby Harrell. Honorary casket bearers will be Lloyd David Willard and Troyal Barker.
