Lawrence Elton Weeks, known to his family and friends as Elton, Dad, Popa, Hank, Joe & Coach passed away on October 9, 2023, at the age of 85 in Paris, Texas.
Elton was born on August 11, 1938 in Hot Springs, AR to Curtis E. & Alta I. (Tucker) Weeks. He met Dannie G. Jones in the 2nd grade who later became his high school sweetheart. Elton & Dannie married on January 7, 1958 and just celebrated 65 years of marriage with their family this year. Elton had a 30+ year long career working in airline operations, 28 of those years being with the original Frontier Airlines.
He loved all sports but mostly baseball, playing for many years from his youth into college and ended his playing career at age 70 playing softball for the church team. His love of baseball had him coaching little league through teen league baseball while in Paris, TX for many years and in later years, he had the joy of being able to coach & watch his grandsons play ball all throughout their childhoods.
There wasn’t a kinder man than Elton. He was strong in his faith and that foundation molded him into the amazing man and role model that he was. He wanted the best for his family and friends, he always gave respect and gained it back tenfold in return. He had a special bond with all of his grandchildren whose lives were each enriched in different ways by the example he was to them.
Elton is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis E. and Alta I. Weeks, sister Brenda Sue (Weeks) Stone and brother Marvin E. Weeks.
Elton is survived by his wife, Dannie G. Weeks, son, Dewayne Weeks, daughter Connie Hargis and son-in-law Bryan Hargis, as well as his grandchildren Kelsie Hargis, Megan Lee (Chris), Carsen Hargis & Travis Weeks (Tabetha), his three great-grandsons, Parker Lee, Tobias Weeks & Titus Weeks and a great-granddaughter, Evalyn Lee. He is also survived by his brother-in-law David Stone and many special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Paris Public Library, as Elton was an avid reader and spent the last 50+ years checking out books to read from there.
Our family thanks you for the prayers, kind words, love & support during this difficult time. We hope that like ours, your lives are blessed for the better by the memories you will cherish of our precious Elton.
Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled memorial services for 2:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13th at Lamar Avenue Church of Christ with Dr. John Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
