David Walter Daniel went to his Heavenly home on Wednesday evening August 10, 2016, at Paris Regional Medical Center with his loving wife and children by his side telling him how much he was loved and that he fought the great fight and now it was time to be at peace and join his mother and father in Heaven. David was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on October 21, 1946. He attended school in Oklahoma City, Shawnee, and Lubbock until his family moved to Paris in September of 1962 where he graduated from Paris High School in 1964. He continued his education graduating from East Texas State University with a bachelors and masters degree in psychology and counseling. He met and married the love of his life, Judy Sanford, in Paris on September 2, 1967. David loved his country and took pride with what our fore fathers created, so he joined the U.S. Army in 1968 where he served in the military intelligence division at Fort Holabird, Maryland. Upon returning to Paris in 1971 he worked for Lamar County and then for Richard Babb who was a great mentor teaching David the ins and outs of surveying and engineering. He then began his career for the City of Paris in the Engineering Department. After 27 years of loyalty and dedication, he retired from the city where his friendship, contributions, wisdom and service to his coworkers and city will always be remembered. David was a man that loved and cared for others; he was so generous and helped however he could. He was an artistic man that loved to paint, sculpt and create great food in the kitchen. He was an avid reader and in return loved to tell his own stories. He also loved the Lord, which makes his passing a little easier knowing we will meet him again. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Judy whom he called “Jude”; his eldest daughter, Crystal Henry whom he called “Princess” and her husband Michael and their two children Conor and Brendan; his middle daughter Joy Daniel otherwise known as “Angel” to him; his son, Josiah Daniel, whom he called “My Son” and his wife Kari. He is also survived by his older brother Jerry Daniel and wife Lori; his sister Joyce Brunson; as well as his sister-in-laws Cecilia Preston and her husband Jerry; and Loma Cox and her husband Kelton. He’s also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will also miss their Uncle Dave. He had special friends that were like family that included Bob and Jackie Alsobrook and her children as well as Glenn & Patti Hevron and their children. He loved his family and he was their rock. Everyone knew that they could depend on him no matter the occasion or situation. He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Lura Daniel; father-in-law Cecil Sanford; mother-in-law Vera Dean; sister-in-laws Candace Daniel and Shirley Lemmermen; brother-in-law Royce Brunson and niece Jamie Daniel. A memorial service for David will be Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Bright Holland Funeral Home at 11:00 am. Family visitation will be prior to the service at 10:00 am. Inurnment will follow in the columbarium of the Open Air Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery. If desired in lieu of flowers your donation to American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Papa will be missed, but his love will always be here through the wonderful memories that were made for all that knew him.
