Billy Gene "Bill" Hutchings

Billy Gene “Bill” Hutchings, 87, of Paris, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services, with military honors, for 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016, at Evergreen Cemetery with Dr. Tommy Turner officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 – 6 p.m. Mr. Hutchings, the son of Henry Clay Hutchings and Nettie Maudie Lee Hutchings, was born Dec. 11, 1928, in the Broadway Community. His father passed away when Bill was 11 years of age. When he was 15, his mother moved the family to Paris. As a teenager Bill enjoyed spending time in Downtown Paris. He worked at the movies theaters and later at A & P Grocery. He was inducted into the U. S. Army on Jan. 12, 1951. Bill served in the Korean Conflict as a sniper for eleven months and twenty-four days with the Army 1st Cavalry Division. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 1, 1956. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge which distinguished actual fighting men from rear area and service troops. Bill was a member of 5th Cavalry Regiment when he received the award. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Paris. In 1955, he married Marlene Jenkins, and she preceded him in death in 2014. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Scott Hutchings & his wife Diane. Survivors include three children, DiAnna Flynt & husband Tom of Colorado Springs, CO, Raymond Steven Hutchings of Paris and Byron Keith Hutchings & wife Anita of Richardson, grandchildren, Kevin Flynt, Bryan Flynt, Hayley Hutchings, Hunter Hutchings and Sheree Nicole Hutchings, great grandchildren, Clara Flynt, Lindy Flynt, Carter Shed and Da’Maci Hutchings, a brother, John Hutchings of Paris, a sister, Bertha Mills of Paris along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends. Casket bearers will be: Dennis Smith, David Sain, Terry Slagle, Kyle McCarley, Tim Proctor and Wayne Moffitt.
