RAHWAY, NJ-Eugene “Rudy” Olden Lee Howard Porter, Sr., left this life to begin a new journey on Friday, October 11, 2019.
He was born on May 5, 1941 in Jersey City, New Jersey to James H. McDaniel Porter, Sr. and Mozella Little Porter. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1986, doing multiple tours in Vietnam and establishing a highly distinguished military record, which included numerous Purple Hearts. He retired from the military at the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Rudy is survived, and will be greatly missed, by an extensive family including: His daughter, Lucretia E. Porter McClamb, her husband, Keyon McClamb, Sr., their children, Keyon Porter McClamb, Jr. and Keyanna Porter McClamb, and grandchildren, Cayden Grubbs and Camille Grubbs. His son, Eugene O. L. H. Porter, Jr., his wife Beverly Porter, their daughter, Ebony Manigault, and grandchild, Noah Manigault. His son, Elliott T. Porter, his wife, Chavelle Porter, and grandchildren, Tyrone Denard, Elliott T. Porter, Jr., and Isiah M. Porter. His son, Christopher O. L. H. Porter, his wife, Tamiko Porter, their children, Nickolas O. L. H. Porter and Donovan O. L. H. Porter. His son, Jonathan O. L. H. Porter and his wife, Alexis Porter. His daughters, Laruna “Cookie” Porter Lambert and Kiara N. E. Porter and his nephews, James I. Strickland and Glenn Ballon.
Rudy is also survived by his brothers Louis H. Porter and James Porter, Jr. and his sister, Lucille Porter. He is joining his siblings, Agnes Ballon, Gertrude Ballon, Arthur Porter, and Johnny Porter. He also leaves behind several foster siblings, including Gerald Govan, Narvis Govan-Harris, Curtis Govan (deceased), George Govan (deceased), and Ethel Govan-Walley (deceased).
Rudy attended PS #29, PS #14, and Snyder High School. He also attended New Jersey State College before beginning his military and law enforcement career, which notably included working with the Plainfield Police Department.
His family thanks everyone who cared for him, including Ramona Chase and Dr. Victor Chang from the Veterans Affairs (VA) New Jersey Health Care System East Orange Campus. They also thank the numerous staff at VA New Jersey Health Care System Lyons Campus. Arrangements are entrusted to Neptune Cremation Society, Paramus, NJ.
