Wes was born on September 7, 1958, in Omaha, Nebraska, and grew up on a farm in North Omaha. He cherished his upbringing surrounded by family, hard work, and the outdoors. Some of his favorite memories were spent hunting and fishing on the river with his brothers.
An avid outdoorsman, Wes had a deep love for hunting and fishing — passions he carried with him throughout his life. He took many backcountry trips over the years with his brothers and close friends, finding joy and peace in nature and adventure. He was a man of strong faith and loved his family above all else. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, proudly attending their activities — always making sure to visit the concession stand for his favorite snack: popcorn.
Wes retired from Douglas County in 2015 after many years of service. In retirement, Wes and Diane were blessed with the opportunity to spend more time traveling together, creating lasting memories. Throughout their marriage, they shared a weekly date night — a tradition they treasured.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Barbara Warnke, and his brother, Mitch Warnke.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Warnke; children, Tyler Hand Jr. (Melissa), Shelby Hoskins (Jacob), Hunter Hand (Crystian); and grandchildren, Landon and Everly Hoskins. He is also survived by his siblings, Dan Warnke (Jan), Grant Warnke (Sheila), Vernon Warnke, Cheryl Warnke, Lynn Rowe (Dennis), Lori Kowal (Craig); along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Wesley’s legacy is one of love, faith, laughter, and a life well-lived in the outdoors. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
