Neil Burton Johnson

Neil Burton (“Mr. Fix-it”) Johnson was born on December 26th, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa and passed away peacefully on March 9th, 2024. He was a devoted dad and grandpa.

Neil moved to Omaha to raise his two daughters. Photography, cars, music and woodworking were a few of his many passions. Neil loved to watch college football. On a Saturday, he would watch from the start of College Gameday until late in the evening on his many TVs. He had high hopes that the Huskers would turn things around. He was a devoted grandfather and took great pride in the many accomplishments of his grandchildren. Over the years, he supported them by attending basketball games and dance recitals.

Mr. Fix-it helped with projects big and small. He was always immediately available if either of his daughters needed help. Neil helped with a variety of emergencies that included dead car batteries, frozen air-conditioners and bats in the attic. He enjoyed working with Scott on finishing the basement of Sarah and Scott’s first house with Sam working alongside them with his Fisher Price tools.

His love for cars started when he was sponsored by a local car dealership and competed in the Soap Box Derby. His dream car was a Corvette and he was blessed to have owned several different models through the years. In 2020, Covid delayed his order on the latest model but he was fortunate to end up with a Jaguar that he loved dearly. Over the years, he attended car shows, worked on car repairs and provided guidance on new car purchases to many family members.

Neil took great pride in his work in the field of radio communications. He started his career as a young man at MobilCom. After several career moves, he landed at the Sarpy County 911 center. Neil enjoyed the challenges presented as the field of emergency communications evolved through the years. Neil loved mentoring his young colleagues and was passionate about teaching the how and whys of any question asked.

After retirement, Neil found joy in reading, listening to music and visiting with friends and family. His biggest project was researching and documenting the Johnson and Brady family history.

Neil is survived by his sister, Sharon Sutton; brother, Kevin Johnson; daughters Sarah Koca (Scott) and Stephanie Johnson. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Sam, Joey and Molly Koca, all of whom he adored.

VISITATION for Neil will be held Sunday, March 17th, 2024 from to 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary, 441 N Washington St, Papillion, Nebraska 68046.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held Monday, March 18th, 2024 at 11:00 at Rejoice Lutheran Church, 2556 S. 138th Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68144. Private burial to follow.
