Melanie Lynn Kewin, 64, went to be with the Lord peacefully with her daughter by her side on Sunday, May 10, 2020. Melanie was born in Burlington, Iowa to Lester Floyd and Claire Brianne Orndorff Cheeley. After spending her childhood in Burlington, Melanie relocated to Omaha, NE over 35 years ago. Melanie viewed adopting and raising her daughter, Kamala, as one of her greatest accomplishments. She was a stay at home mom for 16 years. During which, she was the ultimate mom: from countless baton competitions, and even traveling to Europe twice for world competitions, to being her daughter’s Girl Scout troop leader, she did it all. Melanie’s second greatest accomplishment was going back to school at age 50. As a non-traditional student, she was dedicated to her studies and education. She graduated summa cum laude from the College of Saint Mary with a Bachelors of Arts in Paralegal Studies in 2011. Melanie loved being a paralegal, and enjoyed her time at Shefren Law Office and Rensch & Rensch Law Office. In her free time, Melanie had a love for doing puzzles, drinking chocolate milkshakes, and spending quality time with friends. She was a delight to everyone around her and loved her friends dearly. Survivors include her daughter, Kamala (Kewin) Freeman; grand kitty, Fernando; and grand puppy, Balvenie.
