Edwin S. Arrance, Lt. Col. USAF (ret.) Age 68. Passed away, surrounded by family on September 29, 2015 after fighting an aggressive metastatic cancer for several months. He was born on September 25, 1947 in Suffern, New York, to Julia Belowch and Harold E. Arrance, both deceased. Ed was named after a young uncle who was killed at Anzio Beachhead during World War II. He graduated from Nanuet Jr.-Sr. High School in 1965 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth and Space Sciences from the State University of New York at Stoney Brook in 1969.
In 1970 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a weather observer and rawinsonde operator. On December 12, 1974 he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant upon completion of Officer's Training School. He completed a Master of Science degree at Texas A&M University in 1980 and went on to serve the military in meteorology for a total of over 31 years. His career took him from Texas, Michigan, Turkey, Virginia, North Carolina, Nebraska, and to Los Angeles where he served as the Air Weather Service Liaison to the Defense Meteorological Satellite program. He retired from the service after his second tour of duty at Offutt AFB in 2001 where he served as Chief, Satellite Operations Branch and finally as Deputy Director, Operational Systems at the Air Force Weather Agency. After retiring from active duty, Ed worked for Scientific Applications International Corporation till 2006 and retired permanently shortly thereafter.
Ed is survived by his wife of over 36 years, Sandra K. (Phillips) Arrance and two sons, Harold E. Arrance of Papillion, Nebraska, and Thomas H. Arrance of Omaha, Nebraska.
Ed dearly loved his home and family. He also enjoyed nature, had a passion for finance and investing, and was very patriotic. He attended Thanksgiving Lutheran Church, regularly, and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was the rock of his family and will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services are Friday October 2nd at 2:00 pm at the Thanksgiving Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Interment will be at Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home Thursday October 1st from 1-8 pm with family receiving friends from 6-8 pm. Memorials are suggested to Thanksgiving Lutheran Church, Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, or University of Nebraska Foundation for cancer research.
