Steve, son of G. Virginia “Gini” (Schwendemann) and Charles A. Davis, was born October 23, 1949, in Des Moines, IA and grew up in Sioux Falls, SD. He is a 1971 graduate of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a degree in mathematics. He recently retired after a 44 year career as a software engineer and in software marketing for the telecommunications industry. He was internationally recognized for his expertise and leadership in his field. His work required him to travel, and he had the opportunity to visit many countries in Europe and Asia. One of his favorite memories was traveling to Paris on the Concorde and spending time enjoying the culture and history of France.
Steve was active in his church where in years past he served as Deacon, sang in the choir, and organized the Easter morning breakfast several times. Steve also spent the last three years as a valued member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was the past Flotilla Commander of Flotilla 18-07 based in Medford, NJ.
Steve enjoyed sailing on the Delaware River in his beloved sailboat, Cat’s Meow, or riding around town in his "toy car", Scooter. He had a life-long interest in all things railroad, from restoring railroad equipment for the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, designing and building his own model railroad, to riding the rails up and down the Eastern Seaboard. He was a voracious reader of Sci-Fi and literature, and loved going to the movies, especially to see the latest James Bond or Science Fiction movie. He had a lively imagination, and delighted his children with stories and photos sent from his travels with a small stuffed cat named Zip. One of his pleasures in life was to relax on the porch enjoying a few sips of single malt and a good cigar. He was surrounded by loving family and many lifelong friends, whose company he treasured and whose love and friendship sustained him throughout his life.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Liane, his children Julie (Shea) Flynn, Sean (Janet) Davis, Sarah (Joey) Gish, Alex (Corinne) Davis, and Laura Davis, his three grandchildren, Don, Megan, Abigail, and baby girl Davis due this Spring, his brother Mark (Harlene) Davis, sister Diane (Olaf) Stene, his niece, Jada Stene, and his beloved canine companions, Goofy and Daisy. He is predeceased by his parents.
