Scott W. Murphy, age 65, of Wayne, PA. died of biliary-tract cancer at his home on Friday, November 2nd with all of the abundant grace and dignity that had accompanied him throughout his entire life. The Murphy family is forever grateful to John G. Devlin, MD and all of the oncology nurses at Bryn Mawr Medical Specialists for extending our time with Scott with their genuine, professional and dedicated care.
Scott was born in Mansfield, Ohio to Margaret Ann (Horr) and Robert T. Murphy. Scott enjoyed an enormously happy childhood with his parents and brothers and sisters. After graduating from Ohio State UN., Scott went on to an illustrious career as a pilot in the United States Air Force. While serving this country during Vietnam War, Scott was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his extraordinary flying skills.
After retiring from the military, Scott joined ASTM International and became its Director of Educational Services, a position he loved and an organization he was proud to be part of.
Scott is a member of the Army and Navy Club in Washington, DC. He is also ex-officio of the Armed Serviced Council of the Union League of Philadelphia and has been blessed to be a part of that organization.
Scott’s many, many talents included cooking and organizational skills and he was featured in an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer in November 2007. Scott’s pride and joy was his family and time spent with all of them. Scott is survived by his father Robert (Of Mansfield, Ohio). His brothers Mike (Sally) and Steve (Patty), his sisters Eileen Anding (John) and Megan Boyer (Steve). The love of Scott’s life were his children Chris (Alison), Andy (Sarah) and Katie (Tom Pavlesich) and his grand children, Shawn, Daniel, Melanie, Erin, Andy and soon to arrive Chloe Mary. Scott has also enjoyed a lovely relationship with many nieces and nephews and was a beacon of joy and delight to all of Maureen’s family, especially her Mom, Joanie O’Gibney, her aunt Catherine Matey, her cousin Ed Matey (Ann) and Maureen’s brother Brian, and his wife and son (Marie and Brian P.) Scott is also survived by his former wife Joanne (Litzler), who is the mom of his kids. Scott has been married to Maureen (O’Gibney) for many years now and they have enjoyed a lifetime of love compressed into a shorter than prayed for time.
The family is delighted to receive guests at the Alleva Funeral Home, Inc., 1724 E. Lancaster Ave. in Paoli on Wednesday, Nov. 7th from 5-8pm and again at St. Katharine of Siena Church on Lancaster Ave. in Wayne on Thursday, Nov. 8th from 10-11 am. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 on Thursday at St. Katharine’s of Siena Church. Int. Calvary cemetery in W. Conshohocken.
