Richard Keith Layman passed away in Hospice Care at the Chester County Hospital on March 18th. He was a resident of West Chester, and previously of Malvern. Dick was born September 17tth, 1943 to the late Irene and Bernie Layman. He grew up in Oreland, PA along with his late sister, Virginia Russ, and graduated from Springfield (Montgomery County) High School and went on to Bucknell University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1965. It was there that he met his wife, Connie Gent, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
After serving in the Army National Guard, Dick worked at Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance Company in their Investment Department. He was a co-founder of Radnor Advisors, and later formed LV Real Estate Advisors. He skillfully brought together investors and projects in a variety of cities. He especially enjoyed mentoring and working with young people in the business and maintained close ties with them, even after his retirement.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Andrew (Jordan), Keith (Amy), and Douglas (Tracy). He was the beloved "Grandpa" to Maggie, Elliott, Christian, Mason, JM, and Georgia.
Dick enjoyed golf, reading, especially about history, and was always eager to attend the "Grands" sporting and school events. Along with Connie, he loved time spent at their family house on Sebago Lake in Maine. His generosity, humor, and wit will be both remembered and missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5th at 11:00 at the Wayne Presbyterian Church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to either the Wayne Presbyterian Church, 125 E. Lancaster Avenue Wayne, PA 19087 or to the "Richard '65 and Constance '66 Layman Scholarship" Fund at Bucknell University, University Advancement, 301 Market St. Suite 2, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
