Her beloved husband, Dominic P. Sr., and daughter, Lisa, preceded in death and Dom Jr., Patrice (Rick), Gerry (Tina), Nancy (Mike), Sandi (Frank), Mark, Regina, Marybeth (Patrick), Matthew, as well as 17 grandchildren: Max, Niki, Tony, Carly, Dominic, Doug, Alex, Michael, Julianna, Joey, Gerard, Alessandra, Gianna, Marco, Christina, Brianna, and Damien; as well as 2 great grandchildren, Caden and Eli; her sisters, Antoinette Migliarese and Josephine DeSalvo, and many nieces and nephews.
Born on June 2, 1932, in McKeesport, PA, she was the youngest of six children. At an early age, her family moved to South Philadelphia. From there, she attended St. Gabriel’s Catholic School, where her love of writing led her to become the editor of The Gabrielite Newspaper. She graduated from West Catholic High School in 1950. She then landed her dream job at Prudential Insurance Company as a secretary.
Through her brother, Frank Gerace, she met the love of her life-Dom. She & Dom were married on September 29, 1956. Being told she could never have children, Nancy and Dom made a pilgrimage for their honeymoon to the Shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and Saint Gerard Majella in Quebec. One month later, she was pregnant with their first child. Her doctors advised her that this was a miracle and that they should not expect to have any more children. Little did they know, God had other plans for Nancy and Dom. For the next sixteen years, God blessed them with nine more children. The fun for others was to name all ten children in order at rapid speed, so here goes: Lisa…Tickie… Patti… Gerry…Nancy…Sandi…Mark…Regina…Marybeth…Matt. As devout Catholics, Nancy and Dom devoted their lives to their family. When asked how they divided their love amongst all ten children, they replied, “you don’t divide it, you multiply it.”
In their golden years, as a result of being “Depression Babies,” Nancy and Dom wanted to help others. They established the Caritas Foundation, a private family nonprofit institution. Caritas is a Latin word chosen by Fr. Peter Toscani, which translates to “love family.” Many of the donations supported small Catholic colleges “that are faithful to the Magisterium”, provided water to remote villages in Nigeria and Peru, and built homes in Nicaragua.
Nancy always said, “Help someone because you want to, not because you expect something in return.” When Dom became ill in 2017, Nancy spent his final years constantly by his side, demonstrating a true commitment of 65 years of marital love. She exemplified selflessness to the fullest extent and for that, we, her family, will be forever grateful.
