Nancy was born in Camden, the first of four children of Joseph and Marie Carr, and grew up in Pennsauken. She attended St. Peter’s grammar school and Camden Catholic High School and was a graduate of Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) and West Chester University, where she obtained her teaching degrees.
Nancy married her beloved husband Eric at St. Peter’s Church in 1969, and they celebrated their 53rd anniversary last June. They lived in Pennsauken NJ, Fairfax and Vienna VA, and Cherry Hill, NJ, before settling in Paoli, PA for the last 40 years.
Nancy was brought up to prioritize family, faith and hard work, and continued those traditions in her own family. Her joy was raising her three children, Jeffrey, Nicole, and Dana. She was a mom and homemaker through her children’s middle-school years, and then returned to her other love, teaching reading at Valley Forge Middle School. Nancy took pride in advancing her remedial reading students to on-level reading status. Her family can attest Nancy was a skilled cook and baker, improving recipes through her creativity, which she also put to use in sewing and other crafting. She loved music, her dogs Jake and Rosie, watching her children’s and grandchildren’s games, and dinners out with family and friends. She was known for her great laugh which marked many cherished gatherings with loved ones.
Nancy bravely and with good cheer fought the ravages of Alzheimer’s for the last 14 years. Her strong work ethic and determination served her well throughout the long battle.
In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by her son Jeffrey (Karen) of Brielle, NJ, daughter Nicole (Bryan) Brook of Malvern, PA, daughter Dana Beyer of Boynton Beach, FL, brother Joseph (Sandy) Carr of Dunkirk, MD, brother Patrick (Susan) Carr of Ocean City, NJ, and sister Maureen (Joseph) DeBelle of Flourtown, PA, and her nieces and nephews. Nancy was the loving Mimi to her four grandchildren: Andrew, Brendan, Justin, and Rylie. Nancy is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Marie Carr.
Relatives and friends are invited to Nancy’s visitation on Thursday, December 8, 2022, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a funeral mass at Saint Norbert Church, 50 Leopard Road, Paoli, PA 19301 (http://stnorbert.org/).
