She was born in New Brunswick, NJ in 1931 to the late Raymond S. and Helen M. (Grady) Russell. In her early years, she enjoyed traveling, with her parents, by car to the four corners of the continental United States.
A former sister of the Holy Child, she taught French at the High School in Summit, NJ and later was a professor of French at Rosemont College. After retirement, Lois travelled Europe extensively with her mother and her friend Dory.
In her later years, she loved her vacations to Lake Wallenpaupack, NJ with her friends Dory, Claire and Irene. She cherished going to the 8:00am Mass at Daylesford Abbey and gardening. She was also a member of Surrey and enjoyed exercising with others and volunteered at St. Katherine of Sienna, Wayne, PA.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ben Dieckhaus and her good friend, Dory Liggett.
She is survived by her two best friends, Edward Gallagher, a professor of French in Providence, RI and Joanie Diotte, her college roomate at the Wilson College at Rutgers. Joanie and Lois would attend the Opera in New York City annually.
A visitation will be Tuesday, July 23, 2024 from 9:30am to 10:00am at the Daylesford Abbey, 220 S. Valley Rd, Paoli, PA 19301. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00am. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, New Brunswick, NJ. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Alleva Funeral Home, Paoli, PA.
