Joseph F. Monte, of Paoli, PA passed away peacefully on Monday February 25, 2019. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sydney (nee Fallowes) Monte; daughters Kathy Nardini, Nicole Monte and Michele Monte, grandchildren Jack Lyons, Nolan Lyons, Nicholas Nardini and Jenna Nardini, sister-in-law, Lucy Monte, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his beloved brothers Dominic and Michael. Born March 21, 1934 and raised in South Philadelphia, he attended BOK vocational High School and then UCLA as a music major, after proudly serving in Korea with the United States Marine Corps. Joe had a passion and gift for music and was a musician for the first part of his career, playing in venues across the US. He met Sydney in Indianapolis, IN and they married in January 1966. Joe and Sydney lived in Montreal, Vancouver, and Philadelphia, until they finally settled in Hanover, MA, and later Wayne, PA. After his music career ended, Joe became a sales executive. Throughout his career, he traveled extensively to over 41 countries, including Egypt, India, and Japan. In his personal life, he loved traveling with his family to beach destinations like Ogunquit, ME, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Ischia, Italy. Joe and Sydney immersed themselves in things they loved: family, friends, food, sports, and travel, all fueled by Joe’s zest for life and “positive mental attitude,” a phrase he affectionately used often! Joe was an active member of the Catholic Church and a 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus. He maintained an interest in music, and made a CD of hymns a few years ago. His dedication to the church gave him a platform to focus on all that he cherished: faith, family, friends, and music. Joe will always be remembered for his charisma, his warm and generous spirit, and his love of other people. Funeral service to be held at St. Norbert Catholic Church, 50 Leopard Road, Paoli, PA 19301 on Monday, March 4 at 11:30am; public visitation from 9:30 – 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s name to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org, 1500 Walnut St, Suite 301, Philadelphia, PA 19102.
