Jean was born on November 23, 1934 to John F. Lavelle and Nyle E. (nee Adams) Lavelle in Girardville, PA. Jean lived her childhood and formative years in Girardville and Pottsville. Shortly after marriage to her husband of 47 years, Thomas Malarkey, Jean and Tom moved to Roslyn, PA where they raised their family. Jean held a few part-time positions once her children reached the late teenage years and she completed her employment as a Claims Administrator with Blue Cross Blue Shield.
After the passing of her husband, Jean moved to Hershey's Mill in West Chester, PA. She enjoyed attending theatre shows and sharing meals with friends. Jean also enjoyed visiting with her family and attending her grandchildren's school and sporting activities.
Jean is survived by her children Marty (Donna), Patrick (Nancy), and Marianne Bossi (Jon) and her four grandchildren: Alexander, Benjamin, Courtney and Matthew. Also survived by her brother Thomas (Assunta) and nieces and nephews and their families.
Jean was preceded in death by her first-born son, Michael; her husband Tom; her parents; her sisters and brothers-in-law Joan and William Kieffer, June and Robert Sauers, Jane and Ray Finch.
Jean will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and her strong faith.
Visitation is Friday, June 9 6:00-9:00 pm at Alleva Funeral Home at 1724 E. Lancaster Avenue in Paoli, PA and 11:00-12:00 pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Funeral services are on Saturday, June 10 at 12:00 pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 104 Channing Avenue in Malvern, PA. A private family burial will follow at a later time.
