Horace W. (Mike) Hardy died May 23, 2018 at the age of 93. Mike passed peacefully at the Rose Court nursing facility in Glen Mills, PA, after spending the last eight happy and active years at Maris Grove with his wife of 34 years, Marion.
Mike grew up in Scarsdale NY, the oldest son to parents Horace Sr. and Bess Hardy. He served in the Air Force during WWII and graduated from MIT with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During a long and successful career with Buffalo Tank Corportion, Mike was a design engineer for steel storage tanks and managed several manufacturing plants on the East Coast. He raised four children with his first wife Doris Hardy, who passed away in 1983.
Mike was a life-long music lover playing violin and accordion and singing with various community and church choirs including Calvary Lutheran.
He loved to travel with Marion and had several trips throughout the States and Europe and took many cruises from the Pacific to European rivers.
Mike gave generously of his time, serving on library boards, church vestries and resident condominium boards.
Mike is survived by his wife Marion; brother Jack and and his wife Tessie Hardy; children Bill Hardy, Doug Hardy and his wife Phyllis, Bob Hardy and his wife Mary, and Pat Somers and her husband George; and step-children Jeff Kelty and his wife Kim, Kate Kelleher, Barbara Nerich and her husband Mark, and Sue Cleveland and her husband Gary. Mike has many grandchildren and great grandchildren and he loved spending time with them as much as they with him. Frequent family gatherings and vacations together are precious memories for all.
During his residency at Maris Grove, Mike helped run the Lutheran services and the newly formed German Club and loved working in the woodworking shop.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, New Street, West Chester, PA on June 3, 2018 at 12:00 pm visiting, 1:00pm service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maris Grove Resident Care Fund, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
