Gardner Edward Dickinson IV (Dick), 66, passed away suddenly on November 19th, 2022. Dick was the first born to La Della (Ehlert) and Gardner Edward Dickinson III on August 14, 1956 in Evanston, Illinois.
Dick was a native Floridian, who lived his entire life in Palm Beach County. From his early childhood, you could find Dick on the water. Much of his youth was spent fishing from the (original) Juno Beach Pier. After getting his first boat, he spent more time on the water than on dry land. Dick was a member of the first class at the North Palm Beach Private School (Benjamin) and later attended Cardinal Newman High School (Class of 1974) and Palm Beach Junior (State) College.
Dick found his bride of 31 years close to the water he loved. He and Rita built a beautiful life together raising their family on the water they both enjoyed so much. His family meant the world to him. Their two children, Madelyn and Boomer, were his pride and joy. His granddaughter, Christine (with little Charlotte on the way) was the apple of his eye.
”Dickie” will be missed in the Jupiter fishing community and beyond for his passion and unsurpassed knowledge of the waters off the Jupiter coast and beyond. His expertise as a fishing guide gave him a noted reputation for finding fish “dinner” and the thrill of getting the “Big One”! (with Dick, it was more truth than “tail”).
Dick also spent several years assisting with the design and construction of a fleet of Feadship yachts and fishing boats for yacht enthusiast, Jim Moran. Dick not only brought his expertise in boating and fishing knowledge to these projects, but also brought several of these ships back from overseas.
He later spent many years captaining numerous sport fishing boats until eventually starting his own charter business. He was sought out as a renowned captain by not only local fishermen, but those from outside of the community as well.
Dick was a kind man who was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita Dickinson, his children, Madelyn Anne Hurst (Jimi) and Gardner Edward Dickinson V (Boomer), his granddaughter, Christine Anne Hurst, his sister, Sherry Dickinson Frederickson, his brothers, Randall Ben Dickinson (Kimberly), Barron Frederic Dickinson (Erika), Spencer Lawrence Dickinson (Addison), Judy Dickinson, a host of loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Della and Gardner.
