Francis J. Sobyak, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a mentor and friend to many, passed away August 20, 2021 at home with his wife, son and daughter by his side - he was 83. Frank was the most kind, humble, honest, and genuine person one could ever meet. A great conversationalist, he always showed interest in others, and people of all ages and phases of life sought his counsel and benefited from his advice.
Born in Bethlehem, PA to Francis Andrew Sobyak and Mary Rose Grebenar, Frank graduated with highest honors from Lehigh University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He went on to graduate with distinguished honors from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Frank spent 36 years in progressive management positions at Air Products and Chemicals and at one point was running several International Divisions as the Director of Corporate Purchasing. During this time, he enjoyed experiencing different countries and cultures as he travelled the world with his wife.
In his retirement he spent his first several years teaching as an adjunct professor for Penn State University. What he liked most about teaching was making a positive difference in other’s lives. His love for animals, particularly dogs, led him to donate his time to the SPCA where he directed the development of a new 50 kennel facility. Frank also found camaraderie in the Wayne Book Club where he was able to continue to pursue his life-long interest in learning.
Frank enjoyed being Ardyth’s art assistant, framing her artwork and hanging her shows across the Main Line. He also enjoyed being the Master Gardener’s assistant, helping to maintain the large variety of plants in Ardyth’s arboretum. Frank and Ardyth recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Frank is survived by his wife Ardyth Sobyak nee Beidleman, his son Frank R. Sobyak and his daughter Beth Ann Sobyak, and two granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Frank’s memory to the charity of your choice. A Life Celebration will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at St. Katharine of Siena, 104 S Aberdeen Ave, Wayne, PA 19087. Funeral Arrangements by Alleva Funeral Home, Inc.
