The oldest of five children, Chris was born in Delaware County on December 22, 1949, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Bird) Smyth. She graduated from Conestoga High School and attended the University of Wisconsin and Villanova University. Chris went on to establish a career specializing in financial and clinical information systems in the healthcare industry. She began as a consultant, installing systems at various hospitals for the former Shared Medical Systems, and then was employed for over twenty-five years at Chester County Hospital as a director in Finance and a project manager in Information Technology. Following her retirement in 2012 and before falling ill, Chris served for years as a volunteer at Paoli Hospital in the Ambulatory Surgery Unit.
A skilled athlete, Chris played on competitive basketball and softball teams in high school, college, and thereafter, accumulating awards and trophies. In later years she golfed and biked. Chris enjoyed traveling abroad, spending time at the Delaware beaches, and driving her Mazda Miata. She also was a dedicated fan of Philadelphia’s professional sports teams, well respected for her related knowledge. Her love of nature and the outdoors inspired the rock sculptures she created, and she fully decorated her home for every holiday. Chris was an avid gardener who supported wildlife charities and conservancy groups. She loved and cared for domestic animals, including her own Maine Coon cats, Trudy, Isis, Xena, and Adi, and the pets of friends
Chris was predeceased by her brother Thomas F. Smyth and her parents. She is survived by partner Jane Patullo, siblings Deborah Volker (John), Stephen (Linda), and Ronald (Lisa), sister-in-law Madonna (the late Thomas), Doris and Robert Cirullo, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many friends whom she considered part of her extended family.
