Catherine Kinsley Young Page, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away at age 89 on March 2, 2023, at The Gardens of Taylor Glen Retirement Community in Concord, North Carolina where she had resided since 2011.
Catherine was born to Samuel S. Young Sr. and Catherine Kinsley Myers Young on December 11, 1933, in Philadelphia, PA. There she was raised with her two siblings Sam and Isabella attending school in the city during the week and frolicking on their grandparents' farm on the weekends. One of her greatest joys, however, was the arrival of her surprise baby sister, Linda Sue, when Catherine turned 20. Catherine had been given her very own “live” baby doll, an event that would ignite her maternal instincts. During that time she attended The Philadelphia High School for Girls donning poodle skirts, bobby socks, and saddle shoes and from which she graduated in 1952. From there Catherine tried her hand at a number of careers; LPN school, banking, and finally decided upon secretarial school after which she went to work for Atlantic Richfield Refinery. Later in life, Catherine studied to become a certified paralegal and went on to establish a career as a Constituent Specialist for the Federal Congressional Offices for the State of Connecticut and later moved to our nation's capital to work for the judiciary office of the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, DC.
During the interim of her professional life, Catherine married in 1959 and began fulfilling her dream of becoming a wife and mother. In 1964 she adopted her daughter Kimberly Sue Page, and then in 1967 adopted her son, Philip Alan Page Jr. They moved as a family from Pittsburgh to Long Island, and finally landed in Danbury, Connecticut where they planted roots and raised their family. Catherine’s life was blessed and rich with a close, loving extended family, dear friends, and a deep faith. Catherine’s children were the apple of her eye and she always gave them her whole heart. She dove into motherhood full throttle and the list of her endeavors is endless but includes attendance to countless Little League Baseball and Little Ladies Softball games, Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader, Room Mom, and volunteering for endless school field trips. Later in life, upon the birth of her first grandchild, Catherine again put her children first and relocated to Charlotte, NC in 1998 to help raise her grandbabies and be an integral part of their lives. She quickly discovered this new role would require a degree in Pokemon, Power Rangers, Nerf warfare, and a new endless array of sports games; this time soccer and basketball. She embraced it all with gusto!
Catherine’s passion for football was legendary and upon her move to the New York area, she became a diehard fan of the NY Giants which lasted till her final breath. She was also an avid cheerleader for the NY Rangers of the NHL and the NY Yankees of the MLB. Catherine was also an amazing seamstress, a chef extraordinaire, an avid reader, and quite the card shark. She belonged to many bridge clubs over the years and loved to play canasta or rummy with her family. She also loved to crochet and cross-stitch a passion she passed on to her niece.
Catherine is survived by daughter Kimberly P. Miller and husband Douglas of Davidson, NC, and son Philip Page, Jr. and wife Christine of Asheville, NC; grandchildren Keegan, Kendall, and Caelan; sisters Isabella Y. Kelly and Linda Young; brother Samuel S. Young, Jr. and wife Judy; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 13th at 11 am at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, 2321 West Chester Pike in Broomall, PA. The family will greet friends at a celebration of Catherine’s life, immediately following the service, at the Springfield Country Club, 400 West Sproul Road, Springfield, PA in Salon 3 where lunch will be served.
