Anne Corr Brophy, of Berwyn, PA and Avalon, NJ, passed away on May 11th surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 69 years old. Anne was the beloved wife of Thomas A. Brophy, Esq. for 47 years.
She was mother to five daughters, Colleen (Matthew) Wiechnik, Tricia (Jon) Notte, Jessica (Joseph) Lake, Mary Beth (Patrick) Wilkins, Annie (Andrew) Dean, and grandmother to eight grandchildren, Wyatt, Tommy, Joey, Genevieve, Mabel, Althea, Brigid and Audrey.
Born in Bryn Mawr, PA, to the late Mary W. and Thomas G. Corr, Anne was the youngest of ten children. She attended Saint Denis Grade School, Archbishop Prendergast High School and graduated from West Chester University in 1976 with a degree in social work.
Anne was a loyal friend and an avid competitor – whether it was ping pong, volleyball, tennis, golf, scrabble, bridge, or mahjong. Her ability to combine passion, humor, and talent during competition generated many a laugh and led to many lifelong friendships with teammates and adversaries.
She was the life of every party, the center of every dance floor, and never afraid to be the punchline of her own jokes. Anne was a loyal friend with a sharp wit. She entertained family and friends in her home often, always making certain everyone felt welcome. A frequent volunteer at St. Monica Church and School, Anne was defined by her commitment to her family and Catholic faith.
Anne is survived by her sisters Katherine Corr SNDdeN, Ave (William), Sandra (Frederick), brother Richard (Betty Anne) & many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings Mary Hartigan, Thomas Corr, Mickey Corr, Danielle Byrd, & Patricia Vogelbacher.
Friends and relatives are invited to her Visitation at Saint Monica Church, 63 Main Avenue Berwyn, PA 19312 on Sunday May 15th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, May 16th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. will follow Visitation on Monday at Saint Monica Church. Internment will be private.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations in Anne’s honor to Mothers’ Home, 51 N. MacDade Blvd. Darby, PA 19023 or Notre Dame Mission Volunteers – Haiti, 5405 Loch Raven Blvd. Baltimore, MD 21239, in support of the school, bakery, and scholarship program established by the Notre Dame Sisters in Les Cayes, Haiti.
