Growing up in Drexel Hill, Pa she graduated from St. Andrew School moving on to Notre Dame Academy in Moylan, Pa. where she graduated. She studied business and economics at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pa. graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1942. During her time at Notre Dame and Chestnut Hill College she played on the basketball teams. Watching basketball and playing golf and tennis remained favorite interests during her life. Music and playing the piano were also things she loved.
After College she worked for a securities brokerage company in Philadelphia, PA. She worked in client relations while learning the business. In 1946 she married Harry H. Pennewell Jr. of Drexel Hill, Pa. A few years later they had 2 sons Harry H. Pennewell III Malvern, Pa. and William N. Pennewell, West Chester, Pa. Throughout her adult life she was active in St. John Neuman Parrish, Bryn Mawr, Pa. With other Parrish women they regularly volunteered, teaching children at Our Mother of Sorrows Parrish in West Philadelphia. She was a member of St. Patrick Parrish in Malvern, Pa.
Throughout her adult life volunteering remained a part of her life. Along with her sister Margaret
they actively worked with Pennsylvanians for Human Life, a well known Catholic Social Services Organization. She also volunteered at Archbishop John Carroll High School in Radnor, Pa. Her interest in helping those in need and organizations that provide education and assistance were areas where she felt she could contribute to society in a variety of ways.
In 1962 Harry H. Pennewell Jr, passed away. She began working at Wanamaker’s Department Store in Wynnewood, Pa. Assisting in their regular fashions shows they marketed clothing and accessories to women’s clubs and Luncheons at Stouffer’s Restaurant in Wynnewood, Pa and The Covered Wagon Restaurant in Wayne, Pa. In 1965 she married Francis A. Gaynor of Havertown, PA, a District Manager with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. He passed away in 1980.
Anita is survived by her 2 sons Harry H. Pennewell III and William N. Pennewell ( Barbara ) along with 4 grandchildren Lauren E. Popper ( Christopher ), Amanda C. Pennewell ( Emma ), William D. Pennewell (Christina ), David J. Pennewell,1 Daughter Mary Ann Gaynor McKenna and 3 grandchildren John McKenna ( Tina ), Kathleen McKenna Marchione ( Thomas ), Margaret McKenna, and 16 great & great, great grandchildren.
