DeNUNZIO, Vincent of York, ME died Sunday, March 16, 2014 in Palm Harbor. He was 92 years old. Vin was born June 24, 1921 in Revere, MA to the late Vincent and Louise (Turco) DeNunzio. After graduating from Revere High School, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, which led him to Worland, WY. This experience introduced him to the beauty of the West, where he would eventually settle. After the CCCs, Vin studied Forestry at the University of Idaho, then enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. Discharged in 1944, he then returned East and worked at General Electric in Lynn, MA. At GE, he met the love of his life, Jean Ann Messina. Vin and Jean married in 1946 and moved to Idaho, where Vin and a friend started the North Fork Logging Company. Vin and Jean later returned East, and Vin earned his Master in Education degree at Boston University. An educator at heart, Vin then worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs teaching on a Pueblo reservation in Santo Domingo, NM. In 1955, Vin and Jean settled in Brigham City, UT, where Vin held the position of Administrator at the Intermountain Indian School. His most significant contribution during this time was teaching English to Navajo Indians. Vin and Jean resided in Brigham for 21 years, where they raised four children. In 1976, Vin retired from the government and moved to Wichita, KS, where he was the Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas School until his official retirement in 1980. After a stay in Florida, Vin and Jean enjoyed retirement in York, ME for over 30 years. They recently moved to Palm Harbor to live with their son Peter and family. Vincent is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 67 years; his son Peter and wife Cyndi DeNunzio of Palm Harbor, his son Steven and wife Judy DeNunzio of Vancouver, WA, his son Michael DeNunzio of Tampa, and his daughter Ann Marie and husband Stan Durlacher of Carlisle, MA. He is also survived by his granddaughter Karen and husband Stephen Garufo, his grandsons Dustin and Dominic DeNunzio, his granddaughters Emily and Grace Durlacher, and his three great-grandchildren Stephen Peter, Anna Louise, and Gabriel Vincent Garufo. A memorial mass will be held at St. Anthony's Cathedral in Revere, MA Saturday, March 29 at 11 am. After the service, family and friends are cordially invited to "Happy Hour" in celebration of Vin's life and legacy, where Lambrusco will be flowing. Location will be announced after mass.
