Born 9/17/1911 in Brooklyn, New York, Sylvia had a varied career, beginning at her mother's small Brooklyn candy store, later as a bookkeeper for Jacobs Jewelers, and still later for Florida's Dept. of Health. Her last stint was as a secretary in a prestigious business law firm. She then dedicated her time to her grandchildren, and to sewing, swimming and playing bridge. Following hip surgery, Sylvia died peacefully on Friday, 5/22/2015, just one day after returning to her home .She was thrilled to return to her family and friends and comforted by the presence of familiar photos and memorabilia, her fish and orchids, and indulging her lifelong interest in news and sports as well as her naps in the warm sunshine on her balcony. Sylvia was predeceased by Lewis Y. Rosenthal, her husband of 52 years; she is survived by sons Alan Rosenthal (Lois) of Bluffton, South Carolina; Gerald Rosenthal (Ingrid) of Palm Beach Gardens; and by grandchildren Amy Rosenthal (Seiden), Lori Rosenthal (Rob), and Daniel Rosenthal (Kristin.). All who knew her will remember her warmth, her spirit and her engaging laugh. We will miss her. Services will be held at 9:30 AM on Tuesday. May 26, 2015 at IJ Morris at Star of David Cemetery of the Palm Beaches. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County, honoring her love of reading and education.
