Our hearts are most sad that we have lost a friend, a great man, and  a patriot. Most of all, Ira was fun to work with on my cases for over 20 years. He and I did some travelling together on cases, we shared the ups and downs of our lives and we laughed a great deal. His easy smile and sense of humor made me most glad to see him.

I admired his military service in Viet Nam and in my book, anybody who went there is a hero. He loved his children and Terri very much. The tributes to him from the daughters this morning did not leave a dry eye in the chapel. As moving and genuine as they were,  words don't capture the loss we all experience and feel. 

When someone passes away we often ask first how old the person was. It is as if we all have this expectation or entitlement to a certain longevity in our lives. To me the real question is not how long did the person live, but rather, how did the person live. The clear answer with Ira was he lived with great energy every day. So the measure of his life is not how long he lived but how wonderfully full his life was for him, his family, his co-workers and people like me who had the pleasure to know him and work with him. For that we all must recognize that being thankful Ira was part of our lives enriches us for knowing him.

Through the tears there is a smile that comes through. The pain of separation eases with the memory of special times and moments. Knowing that Ira is in a better place gives solace. His nurturing of his children and his love for Terri can never be taken away. In many ways he was an example of how life should be lived. 

I will miss him. I will miss his easy smile and his insight into my cases because I always sought his opinion on my cases. I was blessed to have had the chance to be in his company. Shalom.

Our family was deeply saddened to learn of Ira's passing. We were next door neighbors for many years and enjoyed so many good times together. 
Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time.
God bless you Ira…you were the kind of guy who made the world a better place.
You will be missed dear friend.
