I worked with Fredy at Fifth Avenue School in Bay Shore, New York.  She was a brilliant, resourceful, compassionate educator.  I remember that every year after the Christmas holidays, Fredy would ask the teachers to bring in their old Christmas/Chanukkah/Kwanzaa cards.  

These she would carefully put away and save up all year long.  In December, Fredy would use these cards as raw materials for that year's holiday display.  The kids loved that project.  Another project the students loved was the clay pinch-pots she taught them to make.  Each student got a fist-sized lump of clay with which they made beautiful pots.  Fredy would take them to be kiln-fired.  These would be returned to the kids just in time for them to give to their parents as holiday gifts.

Farewell, Fredy.  We will miss you. Know that you left the world a better place with your caring and your creativity.
