Sylvia Luz Moreno, 68, of Melbourne died Monday (10/21) at her home. She was a native of Puerto Rico and came to the Melbourne area in 1986 from Middletown, Connecticut. When she came to Florida she decided to take the step to study the Bible and eventually was baptized. Sylvia dedicated herself to God and was extremely happy. She was an active part of the Jehovah’s Witness organization and loved all her brothers and sisters there at the Kingdom Hall. As long as her health allowed she was always there to provide transportation to any who needed a ride. Sylvia did not let her failing health keep her from attending the meetings and would gather her strength to be there every meeting she could.
Sylvia was a mother who loved her children very much and did anything in her power to provide and protect them. The sole provider for her family, she worked hard every day as a housekeeper at one of the local hospitals and her family never complained. Even as hard as she worked, Sylvia always found a way to take time to be with her children and have fun. An accomplished swimmer, Sylvia’s favorite activity was to take her children and then her grandchildren to the pool, even when it meant walking there, where she taught them to swim. Regardless of how sick she was, she always would spend time with all her family; letting them know that she loved them and was there to help.
Even during her last days, Sylvia was thinking of others going the extra step of having a rose for all the girls in the family. She helped many people in her life whether it was giving them advice, cooking them a meal, putting a roof over their head or simply being there with a shoulder to cry on.
