Richard (Richie) Thomas O’Neill, of Grant-Valkaria, Florida, formerly of Meriden, Connecticut, passed away at the age of 66 on April 20, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Joanne O’Neill, and his beloved fiancée, Joni Leavitt. A devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Richard lived a life defined by hard work, passion, and heart.
Born on January 5, 1959, Richard built his life with his hands — quite literally — as a skilled carpenter and proud business owner. His craftsmanship left a lasting mark not just in the structures he built, but in the values he passed on to his family. A firm believer in the power of perseverance, he taught his children and grandchildren the importance of working hard, staying humble, and never giving up.
Richard had a deep love for the outdoors, especially when it came to fishing. He found great joy in reeling in marlins and spending time on the water. At home, he cherished life on his ranch, boarding horses, and enjoying the loyal company of his dogs Sheba, Max, and Duke. He loved the simple things — laughter, nature, and time spent with family.
He is survived by his loving son, Ryan T. O’Neill, and daughter-in-law, Irene O’Neill; grandchildren Dezerae, Nicolette, Dominic, and Noah; and his great-grandson, Nicolas. Richard's memory will live on through them — in their stories, their strength, and the lessons he passed down.
He also leaves behind his brother, John O’Neill; his sister, Sherry M. Haskins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
