Richard W. Jump, 69, of Palm Bay, FL died Thursday, Aug 18, 2016. Born in Elmira, NY to Robert S. Jump and Edith nee Harder, Dick taught shop for the Oneonta, NY schools for 33 years before retiring to Florida. He was ham radio operator KA2HYY/NN4JJ and helped at Habitat for Humanity and Daily Bread. Dick has degrees from SUNY Morrisville and Oswego with graduate classes at SUNY Oneonta.
Despite being born with no left hand, Dick was able to fix or repair anything using the “Jumpified” method. He enjoyed kayaking, car racing, and remote-controlled vehicles.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda nee Allison, a retired newspaper reporter; daughters Jennifer Jump of Palm Bay, FL and Allison Turner of Jacksonville, FL; sons-in-law Max Pianka and Edward Turner; grandchildren Chloe Pianka and Joshua Hall; and brother Robert Jump of Fort Myers.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Dick’s life at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 at the First United Methodist Church in Melbourne. A second celebration will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 at Elm Park UMC in Oneonta. Donations to First United Methodist Church, Melbourne or Habitat for Humanity.
