Laurette Boas, 94, of Barefoot Bay passed away peacefully at her son’s home in Sebastian, FL, with her son and two caretakers at her side. A native of Cairo Egypt she came to the United States shortly after WW II. She became a proud naturalized citizen almost immediately upon arrival. At first Mrs. Boas worked in New York City as a bilingual secretary at a large bank. She met, dated, and married Roland T. Boas of Rutherford, NJ. After college and working to save up for a home that they would build in 1953 in Wyckoff, NJ, they had a son, Richard Alan.
When Richard was old enough to go to school, she began working at a North Jersey Bank and over 30 years Mrs. Boas went from Teller, to Vice President responsible for two offices. Laurette was a member of the New Jersey Woman Bankers Association and the Wyckoff Woman’s Club Evening Division where she served as Chairwoman and Treasurer multiple times. She was involved with the American Red Cross of Ridgewood, NJ and also a parishioner of Church of the Good Shepard Episcopal Church in Midland Park, NJ. Laurette was also an accomplished seamstress and created many paintings and arts and crafts.
Laurette was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Marie Bloudany, her sister: Andre Johnson of Houston, Texas, and her husband Roland T. Boas of Barefoot Bay, FL. She is survived by her son: Richard A. Boas of Sebastian, FL and niece: Laura Elizabeth Simpson of Celebration, FL; nephews: Dr. Edward Earl Boas, Jr. of Chesapeake City, Maryland, Randall Raymond Johnson of Kerrville, TX, as well as their wives and children.
