Kenneth “Gene” Ferguson, 83, of West Melbourne, Florida passed away on January 7, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cheryl, his sons Derek (Krisi) and Deren (Carolyn); Cheryl’s sister, Marta Sterling (Doug), whom they raised; and his adult grandchildren Garrett, Brooke, Jordan, Kyle, Camryn and Cole. He is also survived by his sister, Mary West. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Hollis and Sybil Ferguson.
Gene was born on October 30, 1940, in Cairo, Georgia. His family relocated to the Melbourne, Florida area in the early 1950s and established Ferguson’s Auto Supply in 1954 in West Melbourne. He graduated from Melbourne High School in 1958 where he was voted most talented in his class for his musical skills. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for four years in Morocco, Africa. Shortly after being discharged, he met his future wife, Cheryl Olson. They were married on September 21, 1963, in Melbourne. Gene has been a fixture in West Melbourne for seventy plus years running Ferguson’s Auto Supply as a competent businessman in the automotive/marine industry. Gene liked outdoor activities throughout his life such as boating, water skiing and fishing.
A private service will be held at Fountainhead Memorial Park and a Celebration of Life will be planned and announced in the near future.
