Ken was born on December 6, 1948 to Leo and Elizabeth (Warholick) Chapin in Newark, NJ. He graduated from Toms River High School and Rowan University (formerly Glassboro State College), and served in the US Army Reserves. Ken married Diane Imerito, settled in Micco, FL, and raised three children: Lee, Eric, and Kenneth.
Ken loved to be on the water fishing, surfing, and boating with his family and friends.
Ken’s passion was to share the wonders of nature—he was a teacher, adventurer, and explorer. On land, his favorite days were spent outdoors manicuring his slice of paradise. With his dog Spike in tow, Ken fed the chickens, groomed the palms, and sculpted a jungle-garden. In between, he went on surfing adventures with family and friends on both coasts and beyond.
Ken founded Florida Country Tile and grew the company into a thriving and still-successful business. Many homes and public buildings in the area have Ken’s work at their foundation. In retirement, he volunteered with the American Red Cross for nearly 20 years, providing disaster relief throughout the country. He served as a founding member of the Friends of the St. Sebastian River board of directors, which helped establish the St. Sebastian River State Park, reduce pollution, and conserve the surrounding land. Ken also served on the Sebastian Riverfront Study committee that planned the revitalization of the City of Sebastian waterfront.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 44 years Diane and their children Lee, Eric, and Kenneth; grandchildren Kaden, Eastin Kai, Sailor, and Mya; brothers Jeffrey and Douglas; nieces and nephews; and his dog Spike.
Services will be held at Strunk Funeral Home on 1623 North Central Avenue Sebastian, FL 32958 at 1:00 PM on April 1, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Red Cross or HALO Rescue Shelter.
