James Raymond Long 56 of Palm Bay, Florida peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2011. He is survived by Kathleen Quinn-Long, sons Timothy and Nicholas (Katie), and his three granddaughters Madalyn Jasmin, Tabitha Jean and Chelsea Rose. He is also survived by his parents Corson and Betty Long of Maryland, his sister Janet Wolfe (Jimmy), his nephew James Wolfe, and his nieces Kimberly Wolfe and Christine Wolfe. He graduated from Florida Air Academy in 1972. Jimmy served in the Air Force for five years and then worked for Harris as an Aerospace Engineer for 32 years. He was a member of the PCARS Amateur Radio Club and volunteered many hours helping promote Amateur Radio. He was a devoted Harley Davidson owner and rider and was a member of the Misfits who frequently rode to many remote areas in and around Brevard. He donated many hours with the school system helping with the Legos club at Hoover Middle School and their Career Day. He was a coach of the swim team at Eau Gallie High for several years and he also coached basketball for the Eau Gallie Civic League. Jimmy had many hobbies including basketball, golf, tennis, flying, music (violin), swimming, sailing, motorcycles, ham radio, Legos, hunting, model building, woodworking, RC aircraft and show boats, computers, automotive repair, baking and especially cooking. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday March 5th, with visitation from 2:00 – 3:00 pm, the Memorial Service at 3:00 pm followed by a celebration of Jimmy’s life. The service will be held at Fountainhead Memorial Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, Florida 32909.
