Helen Louise (Chekoff) McGee; Beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend, 77 years young, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019 uplifted in prayer and surrounded by her loving family, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Helen was born in her childhood home on September 15, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana to JivKo and Thelma (Grider) Chekoff.
Helen was a graduate of Ben Davis High School. After graduation, while on a vacation to Florida, Helen met Arthur “Chief” McGee. Helen was swept off her feet by this gentleman which led to their marriage on September 4, 1971 in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. Arthur preceded his beloved wife in death on December 14, 2000. Their marriage led to the birth of their daughter Tina who was their pride and joy.
Helen’s true passion in life was being a wife and mother and providing a warm and loving home to her family. Helen was always her daughter’s number one fan and she cherished being a part of her daily life.
Helen was an active member of the Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne, Florida, where she had been a member since 1971. She was a member of the Melbourne Moose Lodge #1406, The Ladies Auxiliary of The Knights of Columbus, The Red Hats Society, and the Wickham Park Senior Center. Helen loved to travel and in her younger years enjoyed dancing alongside her beloved husband. She loved spending time with family and friends. Helen looked forward to her weekly breakfast group, going to the gym, and casino trips. Helen was an avid Florida Marlins fan and enjoyed cheering them on from home and at the field, however above all of these, Helen’s love for her daughter and son-in-law was her true passion and love in life.
Helen will be eternally remembered by her daughter: Tina (Travis) Clark; a sister: Mary Pleak; a brother: Jim Chekoff; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her grand-furbabies: Bo and Mandy.
Along with her parents and husband; Helen was preceded in death by her sisters Joanne Smith and Joy Garrett.
Visitation for Helen will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay Florida. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 N. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne, Florida. Interment will immediately follow at Fountainhead Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be gifted in Helen’s honor to the Ascension Catholic Church or to the Melbourne Moose Lodge #1406.
Helen will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her spunk, whit, and contagious smile and her unconditional love.
