I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. II Timothy 4:7-8
Carmen Sylvia Wilson (affectionately known as Winnie to family and friends) was born at Arthurs Mt, Lime Hall, St. Ann Jamaica. She was the daughter of Ernest and Mabel Harker on November 23, 1923.
Carmen attended Mitchell Prep School and went on to Middlesex High School in Browns Town. At the age of 19, she followed her passion and went to Nursing School, graduating in 1946. In 1948, she went on to Victoria Jubilee Hospital to do midwifing.
Carmen would meet the love of her life, John Wilson and in 1950 they were united in Holy Matrimony. To this union, three sons were born, John, Douglas and Phillip. Phillip preceded her in death. Her love did not stop there because she would also become the mother to Carmen Dale who also preceded her in death.
Carmen worked with the Jamaican Government for 21 years before leaving her beautiful Jamaica for the United States. She became an employee at Beth Israel Hospital. In addition to working, she continued her studies taking courses in Psychology at Roosevelt Hospital and Pharmacology at St. John College. After her departure from Beth Israel, Carmen worked at Mary Immaculate Hospital until leaving the field of nursing and opening a family business “Wilsons West Indian Bakery”.
Beauty, grace, kind-hearted and Loving can only describe our beloved Winnie. Family and friends were her passion and delight. Whether it was making roast beef, crocheting or making baby blankets, everything she did was done in love.
In 1992, Carmen and her husband of 50 years, John, retired to Florida. They became members of Church of Our Saviour where she had many many friends.
While we are mourning the loss of our Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend, others are rejoicing to meet her behind the veil. On August 24th, Carmen went from labor to rest to join her loved ones that preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish loving memories; her sons John and Douglas, daughter-in-laws Lesley and Karen, grandchildren, Michelle, Yvette, Ras Daniel, Avery, Joseph, Michael, Shawn, Eylcia, Natasha, Shanique, Isaiah, Kyle, Anthony, and Tariq; brother-in-law Arnold Wilson and sister-in-law Dorothy Wilson and a host of family, friends, and loved ones.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Church of Our Savior, 1000 Jersey Lane NE, Palm Bay, Florida 32905. The visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and the funeral mass will begin at 2:00 pm. Entombment at Fountainhead Memorial Park will follow the services, 7303 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, Florida 32909.
