Carl Wilbur Lutz, 97, of Barefoot Bay, passed away Tuesday, March 12. Carl was born February 28, 1916 in Akron, OH. He grew up in McDonaldsville, a small town south of Akron and West of North Canton (home of Hoover Sweeper). He graduated from business college and worked at Republic Steel and Canton Drop Forge. During WW II, he was employed by the Railroad Post Office on the NY Central. After the war, Carl traveled and ended up in California where he briefly worked for Douglas Aircraft. He then headed north to Oregon where he purchased a farm near Grant’s Pass. Soon after, he got a good offer for the property, which he accepted and returned to Canton, OH. He was then hired by Timken Roller Bearing Company where he worked as a tool and gauge inspector for 30 years. On a vacation to Florida in 1977, he was introduced to the developers of Barefoot Bay. Impressed, he purchased a lot on the canal. The following year he retired, and two days later he was relaxing in Barefoot Bay. Carl loved to listen to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio, was an avid golfer and fished the river for 25 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason from the Valley of Canton. He lived to see his 97th birthday and was sharp as a tack until the day he passed. Carl will be missed by his friends and neighbors, who wish him well on his new adventure. There will be a memorial service for Carl in his neighborhood in Barefoot Bay at a later date.
