Born in Rumford, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of Robert and Lillian Smith. She graduated from Bryant Business College and worked first as secretary and, after moving to Lake Worth, Florida, as a court reporter for Palm Beach and, later, Indian River Counties.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lantana, Florida and Saint Sebastian Catholic Church in Sebastian, Florida. She loved to read mysteries and fish in the Indian River. She never knew a stranger, and would talk to anyone anywhere at any time. I can't count the times I've watched her make friends in the grocery store line. People instinctively took to her because they knew she really cared about them and was always happy to see them and spend time with them. Her smile was infectious and genuine, and when she hugged you, you felt it in your soul. No matter how she felt or what was going on in her life, she always made you feel like the most important person in the room. Even when she was no longer able to recognize people in the nursing home, they all went out of their way to greet her and talk to her. She just had that effect on people.
She is survived by her sons, Edward Jr. and Arthur, her daughter-in-law, Amy, and her grandchildren, Kaylin, Trey, Logan and Luke. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward. She will be interred next to him in a private ceremony at Fountainhead Funeral Home in Palm Bay, Florida.
