Arthur T. "Butch" Mantz passed away on March 11, 2025, in Sebastian, Florida, at the age of 78. Born on October 3, 1946, in Newburg, New York, he lived a life filled with dedication, humor, and an appreciation for the little things that made each day unique.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Billie Bertsch Mantz; his brother William Mantz and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by family not of blood but of love, Gary and Christine Vicars, Kerrie and John Mikhailoff, Monique Heineman, Danielle Adkins-Altomare (Bryce) and Nathaniel Heineman.
He was predeceased by his sister Mary Elizabeth Zahn and parents William and Hazel Mantz.
Art graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Glens Falls, New York, before embarking on a career managing grocery stores from New York and Florida. His work ethic and ability to connect with people made him a familiar and trusted presence in every store.
A proud veteran, Art served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Stationed in Korea as a Quartermaster with the rank of E-5, he played a vital role in ensuring supplies reached those who needed them most. His time in service instilled a deep sense of responsibility and camaraderie that remained throughout his life.
Beyond professional and military contributions, Art had a rich array of interests. He was Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, exemplifying the values of scouting—leadership, perseverance, and curiosity—into adulthood. Birdwatching became one of his favorite pastimes, offering moments of quiet reflection amid nature’s beauty. He also had a passion for collecting HO scale model trains, meticulously building towns that reflected his creativity. His love for nostalgia extended to Coca-Cola and M&M memorabilia, amassing a collection that brought joy to both him and those who visited.
Art was known for his sharp wit and keen observations about daily life. His sarcastic humor and quick quips were legendary among friends and family. A conversation with Art was never dull—he could talk to anyone about anything, making fast friends wherever he went. Once you became his friend, you were one for life. Perhaps most famously, he was known for his signature phrase: "Yes, Dear."
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 12, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Cornerstone Baptist Fellowship, located at 1091 Schumann Dr., Sebastian, Florida 32958.
In honor of Art’s spirit and personality, attendees are kindly asked not to wear black and dress casually.
Art’s memory will live on through the stories shared by those who knew them best—the laughter sparked by an old joke or the warmth felt when recalling his unwavering friendship.
